KERATOMETER MEASURING TECHNIQUE Aligning the Instrument The patient's eye level should be in alignment with the pointers on the side of the instrument. To do this the instrument is rotated to one side so the examiner can sight along side the instrument aligning the pointer and white horizontal axis line (like sighting a gun) with the center of the patient's eye. Be sure to loosen the lock on the left side of the instrument to allow the instrument to rotate side-to-side.
